The experience
Tahtali mountain holds the Guinness record for the world's highest paragliding takeoff and landing point. You're picked up from your Antalya accommodation the evening before your flight, then driven to the cable car station. The Swiss-built cable car climbs to the 2365-meter summit in 15 minutes, where German-made equipment and Turkish paragliding team pilots (each with at least 6 years of experience and 3000 flight hours) brief you on what to expect. The pilots are tandem-certified, so you don't need training or special fitness beyond a moderate level. You simply listen to the briefing, clip in, and launch.
Once airborne, you drift on thermal air currents rather than descending fast like skydiving. From the peak you can see Çıralı beach, the ancient city of Phaselis, Olympos, Tekirova, Korsan Bay and the tourist villages stretching toward Beldibi: all from a bird's-eye view that changes as you circle and descend. The flight itself is unhurried, giving you time to take in the panorama of coast, historical sites and mountains. Landing happens on a beach or in a valley below, depending on wind and conditions that day.
The whole outing runs about four hours from pickup to landing. Travel insurance is included. Paragliding equipment, the cable car ride and your pilot's expertise are all part of the package. Photos and videos are not included, so if you want footage of the flight, arrange that separately or ask the operator about add-on options at checkout.
