The experience
The tour runs eight hours and covers both regions of Cappadocia in a single day. You start with hotel pickup in a private air-conditioned van, then head to Göreme Open-Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Byzantine-era churches and monasteries sit carved into the soft volcanic rock, their chapel walls still bearing ancient frescoes. From there you move to Zelve Open-Air Museum, where you walk through the cave dwellings and rock-cut churches of what was once a thriving village, now silent and open to the landscape.
The itinerary takes you to Pigeon Valley, where you rest and photograph the pigeon houses built into the rock formations while sipping tea or coffee. Then comes Monks Valley (Pasabag), where the fairy chimneys, those cone-shaped rock spires, rise around you as you stroll through the valley floor. You visit Uchisar Castle, a fortress carved from a single rock outcrop, and stop at Three Beauties Valley to see the three distinctive fairy chimneys that gave the formation its name. Avanos, a pottery town on the Kızılırmak River, offers a chance to see local handicrafts before you descend into Derinkuyu Underground City, an ancient complex tunneled three thousand years ago into the volcanic rock and used as shelter and storage by successive civilizations.
Your guide is a licensed local who speaks English or Spanish (you choose at booking). The van includes parking fees and taxes. Entrance fees to the museums and underground city are separate. Hotel pickup and drop-off are part of the booking, and the tour suits all fitness levels, though the underground city involves stairs and low passages.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What is inside Derinkuyu Underground City?
Derinkuyu is a vast network of tunnels and chambers carved into soft volcanic rock around 3,000 years ago. It served as a shelter, storage facility and religious center for ancient civilizations, and now you can walk through its intricate passages to see how people once lived and worked underground.
Can I see the fairy chimneys up close on this tour?
Yes. You walk through Monks Valley and Three Beauties Valley where the fairy chimneys stand around you. These cone-shaped rock formations were shaped by volcanic activity and erosion over millennia, and you see them from ground level as you move through the valleys.
Does the tour include lunch?
Lunch is not included in the tour price. You'll have time to eat in Avanos or elsewhere during the day, and your guide can recommend local restaurants.
How many people travel in the van?
You travel in a private air-conditioned van with only your group, not with other tourists. The vehicle is a brand new Mercedes or Volkswagen van reserved for your party.
What is the Göreme Panorama?
The Göreme Panorama is a viewpoint where you see the landscape of Cappadocia spread out below: fairy chimneys, ancient rock formations and cave dwellings scattered across the terrain. The view changes with the light throughout the day.
Do I need to book entrance fees in advance?
Entrance fees to Göreme Open-Air Museum, Zelve Open-Air Museum and Derinkuyu Underground City are not included in the tour price and are paid separately at each site. Your guide will handle the logistics at each stop.
