The experience

Seven hours is enough to move through the major sites without rushing, and short enough to leave your morning or evening free. The tour starts with hotel pickup and heads to Uchisar Castle, then drops into Devrent Valley to walk among the rock formations shaped like animals and figures. From there you move through Love Valley and reach Zelze Open-air Museum, where Byzantine monks carved churches directly into the stone.

Avanos sits roughly halfway through the day: a working pottery town where you can watch artisans at the wheel or simply walk the main street. The guide knows the place and can point out where to stop. After Avanos, the route leads to Goreme Open-air Museum, the largest collection of rock-cut churches in the region, with frescoed interiors and monastic cells built into the cliffs. The final stop is Pigeon Valley, named for the thousands of dovecotes carved into the rock face. Your driver returns you to your hotel by late afternoon.
