The experience

You ride out as the afternoon light starts to angle across the valleys. The route takes you through the national park that extends to the ranch itself, so the fairy chimneys and rock formations are part of the trail, not something you pass on the way. A local guide leads the group on trained horses (the operator matches larger riders to bigger animals if you let them know in advance), and the pace stays steady enough for beginners. Helmets are provided and non-negotiable.

The valleys open up as you climb. Rose Valley and the Red Valley are the centerpiece, and the guide stops at viewpoints where the light hits the formations at their best angle for photos. Along the way, cave dwellings are tucked into the rock face. Your guide will point them out and explain what you're looking at. The 360-degree view of Göreme spreads out from the higher points, and the valleys themselves narrow and widen as you move through them.

You finish at the sunset point on the ranch, where the sky and the rocks shift color as the sun drops. Cold drinks, tea and coffee are waiting.
