Horseback Riding in Cappadocia: Red & Rose Valley at Sunset
Ride local trails through Rose Valley as the fairy chimneys turn pink.
A 2-hour horseback ride through Cappadocia's Red, Rose and Meskender valleys at sunset, departing from Göreme with a local English-speaking guide, trained horses, helmets and hotel pickup included. The route follows the valleys as light shifts the rock formations from gold to soft pink, stops at panoramic viewpoints for photos, and passes hidden cave dwellings your guide points out along the way. Suitable for all riding levels; children welcome from age 5 with advance notice if an infant will ride.
Step-by-step itinerary
Sunset horseback ride in Cappadocia

- Enjoy 360-degree view of Goreme and Cappadocia
- Return as stars appear

The Experience
You ride out as the afternoon light starts to angle across the valleys. The route takes you through the national park that extends to the ranch itself, so the fairy chimneys and rock formations are part of the trail, not something you pass on the way. A local guide leads the group on trained horses—the operator matches larger riders to bigger animals if you let them know in advance—and the pace stays steady enough for beginners. Helmets are provided and non-negotiable.
The valleys open up as you climb. Rose Valley and the Red Valley are the centerpiece, and the guide stops at viewpoints where the light hits the formations at their best angle for photos. Along the way, cave dwellings are tucked into the rock face—your guide will point them out and explain what you're looking at. The 360-degree view of Göreme spreads out from the higher points, and the valleys themselves narrow and widen as you move through them.
You finish at the sunset point on the ranch, where the sky and the rocks shift color as the sun drops. Cold drinks, tea and coffee are waiting. The ride back happens as the stars start to appear in the Anatolian night, and the hotel pickup means you don't navigate the return on your own. The whole outing runs 2 hours from start to finish.

Can I ride if I've never been on a horse before?
Yes—the tour is suitable for all riding levels, and the guide leads the pace. If you're a beginner and have an infant, the operator asks that you call ahead, as a beginner rider cannot take a child on the horse with them.
What's included in the price?
The 2-hour ride includes entry to the panoramic viewpoint, a riding helmet, the trained horse, the local guide, hotel pickup and drop-off, and refreshments (cold drinks, tea and coffee) at the sunset point on the ranch.
What are the fairy chimneys and where do I see them?
The fairy chimneys are the tall, cone-shaped rock formations scattered across Cappadocia's valleys. You ride through them on the trail itself as part of the route through Rose Valley and the Red Valley, so they're not a distant sight—they're the landscape you're moving through.
Is this safe for children?
Children are welcome from age 5. Infants and very small children cannot ride on the horse itself, but they can come along in a pram or stroller if you call ahead so the operator can arrange extra staff to assist. If you're a beginner rider, you cannot take an infant on the horse with you.
What time does the ride start and end?
The ride is timed for sunset, so the start time shifts with the season. Hotel pickup is included, and the full experience—ride, viewpoint time and refreshments—takes 2 hours. You return as the stars appear.
What should I bring or wear?
Wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes suitable for riding. Helmets are provided. The operator recommends calling ahead if you're tall, heavier, or have any physical concerns so they can prepare the right horse and support for your needs.
