The experience

The day starts at Uchisar Castle, the largest fairy chimney formation in central Cappadocia. You'll spend time at the base of the castle with your guide explaining its history and significance, with plenty of opportunity to photograph the rock formations and explore the area. From there, the tour moves to Pasabagi, also called Monks Valley, where you can get close to the mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys and even touch them. Your guide shares information about the Christian communities who once lived in these carved dwellings.

Zelve Open-Air Museum is a former cave settlement that served as a Turkish village until the 1960s. The site contains the remains of dwellings, churches and other structures carved into the rock, and you'll have time to walk through and photograph the remnants. After Zelve, Devrent Valley, known as Imagination Valley, presents rock formations shaped like animals and objects: a camel, a snail, a penguin. The guide will point them out, but you decide what you see in the rocks.

Lunch is a break at a local restaurant with either a fixed menu or open buffet. After eating, the tour heads to Avanos, a town known for pottery. At a working pottery workshop, artisans first explain the craft, then demonstrate how it's made, and then invite you to try shaping clay yourself: a hands-on moment that breaks up the day of looking and walking. The tour ends with a stop at Love Valley, where you see more examples of the mushroom-shaped hoodoos set against a panoramic view of the landscape.
