The experience
The tour starts at your chosen pickup point: your Bodrum hotel, the cruise port, or Yalıkavak Yacht Marina. Your guide meets you holding a signboard with your name and drives you in an air-conditioned vehicle to the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, built inside the historic Bodrum Castle. The museum holds one of the world's most significant collections of maritime artifacts recovered from Aegean and Mediterranean shipwrecks. You'll see the Uluburun Shipwreck (dating to the 14th century BC and among the oldest known) alongside glass wrecks, ancient amphorae, jewelry, tools, and vessels from the Roman and Ottoman periods. The museum itself sits within the castle, so the setting carries as much history as the objects inside.
After the museum, a scenic drive takes you to Etrim Village, a traditional Turkish settlement in the hills above Bodrum. This is where the tour shifts from artifact to living craft. You walk the village streets, observe the rhythms of rural life, and visit a carpet-weaving cooperative where artisans work on looms using techniques that trace back to Central Asia. You'll learn how the patterns are made and what the colors mean. Then you sit down to a home-cooked lunch prepared with local ingredients (the operator notes vegetarian options if you request them at booking), and eat with people who live there. The meal and the weaving visit are the core of the village stop. This is not a photo-stop tour.
The return journey follows the same route back to your starting point. The whole day is five hours from pickup to drop-off. A licensed professional guide leads the tour in English and handles all the logistics. You bring only yourself and a moderate level of fitness for the walking through the museum and village.
