The experience
The Museum of Underwater Archaeology, housed inside Bodrum Castle, is one of the world's leading collections of maritime artifacts. The centerpiece is the Uluburun Shipwreck, one of the oldest known wrecks, dating to the 14th century BC. You'll also see the Glass Wrecks Collection, ancient amphorae, maritime jewelry and tools, and shipwrecks from the Roman and Ottoman eras. The castle itself sits on the waterfront and offers views across the harbor.
Beyond the museum, the tour takes in the Myndos Gate (a surviving section of the ancient city walls built during King Mausolus's reign), where Alexander the Great encountered fierce resistance in 334 BC. You can still see remnants of the defensive walls, moats and buried tomb structures. The Bodrum Amphitheatre, built in the 4th century BC, once seated 13,000 spectators and still hosts concerts today. It overlooks Bodrum Castle and the Aegean. The windmills on the hills between Bodrum and Gümüşlük, constructed in the 18th century to grind wheat, offer a panoramic view especially striking at sunset.
The afternoon shifts to Etrim Village, a traditional Turkish settlement where daily life continues as it has for generations. You'll walk the village streets, observe local rhythms, and sit down to a home-cooked lunch made with regional ingredients. A brief stop at a carpet-weaving cooperative shows the intricate craft of Turkish carpet-making, a tradition with roots in Central Asia that remains active here. The tour ends with drop-off at your original pickup point: cruise port, marina or hotel.
