The tour opens at the Lower Düden Waterfalls, where you stand on viewing platforms in Düden Park and watch the river plunge 40 meters over a cliff into the turquoise sea: a rare sight where fresh water meets salt. Enclosed by ancient Roman and Byzantine walls, the neighborhood is a labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets lined with restored Ottoman houses: red-tiled roofs, wooden balconies, centuries of detail. You pass under Hadrian's Gate, a Roman triumphal arch from 130 AD, and see the Yivli Minaret, the fluted tower that marks the skyline. The Old Harbor sits at the bottom, once a trade hub, now a marina where an optional boat trip can take you along the coast to see secret coves and the city from the water.
