The experience

Five hours gets you from your Tunis hotel to Dougga and through the main Roman ruins without rushing. The tour opens at the Theatre (built in 168 AD by a wealthy townsman named Marcus Quadratus), which could hold 3,500 people and still dominates the site despite sitting near the car park. From there the route moves through the residential quarter, past temples and down to the extensive Licinian Baths, with stops for photographs of the Capitol. The site sits on high ground overlooking the hills, and the geography itself is part of what makes it work: the stone columns and layout read clearly from the vantage points the tour uses.

Transportation in an insured tourism vehicle is included, as is hotel pickup and drop-off from your Tunis accommodation. A licensed guide leads the walk and provides commentary in your choice of English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language. Entrance fees to Dougga are covered in the booking.
