The experience

The tour departs from your hotel and heads south toward the Roman road, stopping for photos before reaching Guellala, a Berber village where you'll walk through an old pottery workshop to see how local craftspeople shape clay by hand. From there you continue to the Ghriba, Africa's oldest synagogue, then to Erriadh, a village that transformed into an open-air gallery when over a hundred street artists from thirty countries painted its walls during the summer of 2014. The murals cover buildings throughout the town, turning the entire place into a working canvas of global street art.

The route then moves north to Houmt-Souk, Djerba's main city and administrative center, where you stroll through streets lined with white-facade houses and wander the souk at its heart. Stalls sell colorful goods and the market stays lively throughout the day. After Houmt-Souk, the tour reaches the Djerba Explore Park, located less than ten minutes from most island hotels. The park's main draw is its pools holding 400 Nile crocodiles brought from Madagascar: some of the largest crocodile species in the world, with males reaching up to seven meters and weighing nearly a ton.

You choose between a scooter or an electric car for the day, and lunch happens at a local restaurant with views of the sea, where the staff serves fish and seafood. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and two additional languages, and the full route takes five hours.
