Step-by-step itinerary
Explore Tunis, Carthage, and Sidi Bou Said
- Visit Tunis Medina UNESCO site
- Tour ancient Carthage ruins
- Enjoy lunch in La Goulette
- Explore charming Sidi Bou Said village
The experience
The Medina of Tunis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built on narrow streets, bustling markets and historic monuments: mosques, medersas, palaces and traditional souks woven together. Your guide navigates the maze with you, pointing out the architecture and the layers of Tunisian history layered into the walls and the layout. From there, the tour moves to Carthage, an ancient Phoenician city and another UNESCO site, where you walk among the ruins of the Antonine Baths, the theatre and the remains of villas that once overlooked the Mediterranean. The scale of what survives (and what the guide explains about what stood there) makes the distance between then and now concrete.
Lunch happens in the Goulette, a break built into the day rather than rushed through. Afterward, Sidi Bou Said sits on the coast with white houses and blue shutters, the kind of place where the light and the geometry of the streets matter as much as the history. The tour ends there, leaving time to walk before the return to the port. Private transportation is included throughout, along with parking fees and entrance to Carthage. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or Portuguese depending on your group.
The schedule is locked to your ship's departure time, so the return is guaranteed. Families with infants can bring a pram or stroller, and the sites are navigable for most fitness levels, though the Medina's streets are uneven and narrow in places.
