The experience
You leave Lomé early for a two-hour drive to the base of Mount Agou, passing through Togolese countryside before arriving at the foot of the mountain. From there, the hike begins through Kebo Djigbé, a village perched on the mountainside with views across the region. The climb to Pic d'Agou takes one to two hours depending on your pace, and the guide points out details about the landscape and offers a chance to meet locals along the way. At the summit, the air and the vantage point make it worth lingering for photos.
After descending, you spend the afternoon in Kpalimé visiting two sites: a handicraft center that doubles as a school for young people, where you can see batik clothing, leather goods, wood carvings and pottery made locally; and a colonial castle with views over the city, its surroundings and, on clear days, the borders toward Ghana and Lake Upper Volta. Both stops are built into the day's route, so there is no separate planning needed.
The final leg takes you to Womé waterfall, a hidden spot where you swim in the pool beneath the falls to recover energy before the drive back to Lomé. Reaching it means descending and climbing steep terrain, but the refreshing water and the chance to meet other travelers make it a natural end to the day. You return to your starting point in the late afternoon.
