The experience

After check-in at the pier, with coffee, tea and snacks, a professional guide introduces Phang Nga Bay and goes over the safety guidelines. Then you board a big boat into the bay, greeted with a fresh coconut and a Thai dessert, with free-flow soft drinks and seasonal fruit included too. Then you switch to canoes at Hong Island and paddle into its sea caves under expert guidance, past diamond stalactites and a limestone sea stack that splits the cave. On the way to Panak Island, a professional guide shows you how to make your own Krathong, a traditional Thai float decorated with flowers.

At Panak Island you paddle into the cave where the Krathong ritual takes place: you set your handmade Krathong afloat and offer a prayer to the goddess of water. Back aboard, a freshly cooked Thai buffet dinner is served while the sun drops over the water, with dishes like a seafood platter, a less spicy Tom Yum, fried shrimp, fried fish and egg fried rice, plus vegetarian and halal options. The boat then heads back to Ao Por Pier, where your driver meets you for the return to your hotel.

Life jackets and an experienced guide are provided. The boat carries insurance under Thai law. It suits all fitness levels, but it isn't advised for anyone with a spinal injury or cardiovascular problems, or during pregnancy.
