The Experience

The speedboat leaves Ko Samui at 8am and takes 1½ hours to reach Koh Nangyuan, a cluster of three small islands connected by beaches of white sand — the only place on earth where you can walk an unbroken stretch between them. The boat carries up to 35 people, so it moves fast and the crossing itself is part of the draw if you want speed over a long, slow crawl. Once you arrive, you swim first, getting used to the water and the reef before lunch.

After the local restaurant meal, the guide leads snorkeling sessions at both islands. Koh Nangyuan's reefs sit close to shore and the water stays shallow enough to see the coral and the fish moving through it without deep diving. Koh Tao, the second stop, is known as one of the gulf's best snorkel sites — the coral here is denser and the variety of fish larger. You spend the afternoon in the water, moving between the two islands as conditions allow. The itinerary can shift depending on weather and tides, so the guide makes those calls on the day.

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, and the driver may run 15 to 30 minutes late due to traffic — plan accordingly. Life jackets are provided. Bring your own sun protection, swimwear, a camera in a waterproof bag, and sandals for the boat.
