Two dives at Koh Tao: what certified divers find in 80 minutes north

You're picked up from your hotel, taken to the pier for breakfast, then speedboated 80 minutes to Koh Tao for two dives at sites chosen by that day's conditions. All gear, a professional guide, lunch, and drinks are included. The boat returns to Koh Samui by mid-afternoon, so the whole day fits between breakfast and an early dinner.

The Experience

The minivan picks you up at your hotel around 7:00 am. You'll ride to the pier in Bophut where the Discovery Divers team is waiting, and there's coffee, tea, and light breakfast while you meet the guide and other divers. The speedboat leaves at 8:00 am sharp. Eighty minutes across the Gulf of Thailand and you're at Koh Tao, an island just north of Koh Samui that's known for having something for everyone — shallow rocky sites if you want to ease in, huge pinnacles if you want depth, hard and soft corals everywhere, and fish that actually show up.

Which two dive sites you hit depends on the day's conditions. The operator rotates between about twelve spots: Chumphon Pinnacle, Mango Bay, Shark Island, Twin Rocks, Japanese Gardens, and others. A guide who knows the water will lead both dives and carry your air. All equipment is included — tanks, weights, BC, regulator, wetsuit if you need it — so you show up with your certification card and your log book. Lunch happens on the boat between dives. The whole Koh Tao 2-dive day trip runs from 8:00 am until the boat heads back, and you're back at your resort by 3:30 pm.

You'll need proof of certification before you go. The operator asks for your diver level, when you last dove, and your total dive count — that's how they match you with the right sites and guide. If you're not certified yet, there's a Discover Scuba Diving option instead. Vegetarian meals are available if you mention it when you book.
