Your first breath underwater, guided step by step

Discover Scuba Diving is a full-day beginner scuba experience in Koh Chang where you complete two introductory dives to a maximum depth of 12 meters under constant instructor supervision. The program starts with equipment fitting and safety briefing at the dive shop, moves to shallow-water skills practice, then progresses to two guided dives at local coral reefs or Koh Rang National Marine Park. Hotel pickup is included, as are all scuba gear, lunch on the boat, and instruction in English, French, German, Thai and other languages.

The Experience

The day starts at the dive shop, where you try on your scuba equipment, complete a registration form, and meet your instructor. From there, the boat takes you to the dive sites around Koh Chang. During the cruise, your instructor walks you through the basics of scuba diving, safety procedures, and what to expect once you're in the water — so by the time you arrive, you already know what's coming.

Your first dive begins in shallow water. You'll practice a few simple skills — clearing your mask, controlling your breathing, moving slowly — in a calm, controlled setting before the instructor guides you deeper. Even if you're not a strong swimmer, the activity is designed to be easy and relaxed. You stay close to your instructor at all times. After lunch on the boat, you make a second dive, descending to a maximum depth of 12 meters. Depending on weather and conditions, dives happen either at local coral reefs around Koh Chang or in Koh Rang National Marine Park.

The full day runs about 8 hours. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, along with all scuba equipment, a buffet lunch, and hot and cold drinks. Your instructor speaks English, French, German, Thai and additional languages. If you complete this program, it counts as the first day of your PADI Open Water Diver course, so you can continue training later if you want to.

Top questions

What's the difference between this and a full PADI Open Water course?

Discover Scuba Diving is a single-day introductory program with two dives and no certification at the end — you're trying scuba, not earning a license. The PADI Open Water course takes multiple days and results in a certification card you can use to dive independently anywhere in the world. This program counts as day one of that course if you decide to continue.

How deep do you actually go on these dives?

Your maximum depth is 12 meters (about 40 feet). The first dive stays shallower while you practice basic skills, and the second dive reaches the 12-meter limit. Your instructor controls the pace and stays with you the entire time.

What if I'm nervous about breathing underwater?

The program is built for nervous first-time divers. You start in shallow water practicing skills before any real diving happens, your instructor explains everything step by step beforehand, and you stay in close contact with them throughout both dives. The boat trip includes a full safety briefing, so you know exactly what to expect.

Does the price include the national park entrance fee?

The price covers the dive sites around Koh Chang itself. If conditions or weather direct the boat to Koh Rang National Marine Park instead, there is an additional entrance fee of 400 THB per person, paid on the day.

What's included in the full day?

Hotel pickup and drop-off, all scuba equipment, professional instruction, two dives, lunch on the boat, and hot and cold drinks are all included. You only need to bring a swimsuit, towel, and any personal items.

Can you do this if you've just arrived by plane?

Diving within 18 hours of flying is not recommended due to decompression sickness risk. If you're arriving by air, plan to dive the next day or later. You'll also complete a health questionnaire before the dive, and some medical conditions may prevent you from participating — consult your doctor if you have asthma, heart conditions, or other pre-existing concerns.
