The experience
Your day starts with a 9:30 am pickup from your hotel to the Pro-shop in the city center, where you test-ride the bike and get fitted with a helmet, gloves, and knee and elbow pads. A 45-minute drive takes you up to Doi Suthep National Park at 1,550 meters. After a quick bike check, you roll downhill to Ban Chang Khian, a hill tribe village where you stop to meet locals, drink fresh coffee at a hilltop plantation, and walk through the settlement. The views of the Mae Ping valley open up from here.
From the village, you ride a lengthy downhill stretch (with a few short climbs mixed in) through highland jungle and plantations on the way to Huay Tueng Tao Lake. The trails are rugged jeep tracks, not paved roads, and the descent is the heart of the day. A support truck follows the group, carrying water, first aid, and secure storage for valuables. The guides are certified in first aid and CPR, and they lead in English or Thai depending on the group.
The ride ends at the lake, where you eat a Thai lunch (vegetarian and vegan options available) at a lakeside restaurant, swim if you want, and rest before the drive back to your hotel. A hydration backpack and bottled water are provided throughout the day. The national park entry fee and insurance (250 THB per person) are separate. Optional gear like padded shorts, jerseys, and hiking shoes can be rented at the Pro-shop.
