The experience

You start with a drive up to Doi Pui Summit in an air-conditioned van, arriving at 1,550m elevation where the real work begins. From there, you traverse and climb along remote mountain ridges, building fitness and taking in views across the highlands. The terrain shifts between single and double tracks, some rutted and technical, demanding focus and bike handling skills. Along the way, you pass through hill tribe farming villages and highland jungle, moving through the landscape rather than just through it.

The descent is the payoff. You blast down one of the main trails leading into the valley, navigating the varied terrain you've just climbed through but now in reverse and at speed. A support truck stands by throughout the ride, ready to assist if needed, and your guides, Chiang Mai's professional mountain bike instructors, stay with the group the whole way. Water and hydration packs keep you fueled. Certified First Aid and CPR training means safety is built in. The ride ends at Lake Huay Tueng Tao at 377m elevation, where you have lunch (vegetarian and vegan options available) and a swim to cool off after the exertion.

Your bike is provided and well-maintained in all sizes. You can test-ride it at the Pro-shop before you start. Helmet, gloves, knee pads and elbow pads are included. Pickup happens from your accommodation. Just provide the exact address in the booking notes if it's not in the standard list. The whole experience runs about six hours from pickup to drop-off. Lite hiking shoes, padded shorts and jerseys are available at the Pro-shop if you want to add them. Insurance and national park fees are optional at checkout.
