The Experience
Mae Taeng Valley opens up on an ATV you'll ride for 3 hours through a mix of jungle and road terrain. The day starts with detailed instruction and a training course so you get comfortable with the vehicle before heading out. Roughly 40 km of riding follows, moving through the local countryside at a pace suited to beginners and intermediate drivers. You'll see the valley a way most visitors don't — low and fast, dust and engine noise, the landscape changing as the terrain shifts from packed road to loose jungle floor.
After the ATV section, the Mae Taeng River takes over. Class III and IV rapids run through jungle, and expert guides navigate you through them in a full-day rafting adventure. The water moves fast enough to matter — this is not a float — and the guides handle the route while you paddle and brace and read the current. Lunch is included, and towels and shower facilities wait at the end so you can rinse off before the ride back to your hotel. Bring a second set of dry clothes for the return trip.
Pickup happens within 3 km of Chiang Mai's city centre, so the day starts without arranging transport. Helmets and life jackets come with the package, along with coffee or tea. Children from age 7 can join; younger kids can ride in a stroller during the ATV section. The whole day runs about 10 hours from pickup to drop-off.

Is this one for you? Most ATV tours in Chiang Mai end at the valley; this one continues into whitewater rapids, so a single day covers two different landscapes and two kinds of riding instead of one. The instruction at the start means you don't need experience on either vehicle.

How difficult is the ATV riding if I've never done it before?
The ATV section is set up for beginners to intermediate drivers. You start with detailed instruction and a training course to get comfortable with the vehicle before the 40 km ride through Mae Taeng Valley begins, so no prior experience is required.
What are the rapids like on the Mae Taeng River?
The Mae Taeng River section features class III and IV whitewater, which means fast-moving water with waves and obstacles that require active paddling and positioning. Expert guides lead the way through the jungle, and you paddle as part of the team navigating the current.
What should I bring for the full day?
Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and bug spray. A second set of dry clothes is essential for the ride back to your hotel after rafting. A copy or photo of your passport on your phone is needed for registration.
Is lunch included, and what about getting clean afterward?
Lunch is included during the rafting portion. Towels and shower facilities are available at the end of the day so you can rinse off before heading back to your hotel.
Does pickup from my hotel cost extra?
Free pickup is included for hotels and accommodations within 3 km of Chiang Mai's city centre. The driver will collect you in the morning and return you after the day ends.
Can my young children come along?
Children from age 7 are welcome on the full adventure. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller during the ATV section if they're not old enough to ride themselves.
