The Experience

There’s this moment when our guide, Nok, handed me a bottle of cold water right outside the Grand Palace—sweat already trickling down my back even though it was barely 9am. Catching a glimpse of Wat Arun across the river was another thing entirely—the spires look almost like sugar work from far away. Up close, you can see broken bits of porcelain pressed into every surface. We climbed halfway up (my legs complained) and just stood there looking out over Bangkok’s rooftops and boats sliding along the Chao Phraya. I still think about that view sometimes—how busy and beautiful everything felt at once.
