The Experience

“You ever tried tom yum in a wonton?” our guide, Pim, grinned as she handed me this crispy little parcel that smelled like lemongrass and something smoky. We’d just hopped off the subway at Hua Lamphong — still sticky from the heat, but honestly, I barely noticed once we squeezed into the tuk tuk and zipped off into Bangkok’s backstreets. I didn’t expect to laugh so much before even eating anything.

Dessert was this bowl of fruit swimming in coconut milk — Pim picked out the best stuff for us because I had no clue what half of it was. There was a craft beer too at some hidden bar by the river; I don’t even like beer usually but it just worked after all those flavors. By then it felt like midnight but apparently it was only 9:30pm? Time is weird here.
