The Experience
You arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport and drive to Arusha for your first night at Gran Melia Hotel. The next morning, the safari begins with a two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, where the dry season brings massive herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, elands and Oryx to the Tarangire River's permanent water. You spend the afternoon on a game drive and overnight at Tarangire Kuro Treetops Lodge.
Day three takes you through Olduvai Gorge—an archaeological site where early human fossils were first discovered—on the way to Serengeti National Park, a three- to four-hour drive through landscape shaped by the same tectonic forces that created the Great Rift Valley. You arrive at Ole Serai Luxury Lodge in the late evening. The next full day is spent entirely in the Serengeti's wilderness: a morning and afternoon of game viewing, a picnic lunch beside you in the park, and the chance to witness the world's largest concentration of plain game still roaming free.
Day five moves to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you descend into the crater for a game drive. This is the best place in Tanzania to see black rhinos and prides of lions with magnificent black-maned males, plus flamingoes, water birds, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and antelope. You overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. On day six, you drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a late-afternoon game drive—the best time to spot animals—with the Rift Valley escarpment as a backdrop. Monkeys leap through the groundwater forest, elephants stand in the shade, and you'll see zebras, impalas, giraffes, buffalos and hippos before returning to Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha. Your final morning is at leisure before transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport.

What animals will I see on this Tanzania safari?
Tarangire is known for large herds of elephants, wildebeest, zebras, lions, leopards and giraffes. The Serengeti hosts millions of wildebeest during the annual migration, plus lions, cheetahs and other big cats. Ngorongoro Crater is the best place in Tanzania to see black rhinos and prides of lions, along with leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, flamingoes and water birds. Lake Manyara adds monkeys, buffalos and hippos to the mix.
Is this safari suitable for first-time visitors to Tanzania?
Yes. The itinerary covers five of Tanzania's most famous parks and sites, including Olduvai Gorge and the Serengeti's annual wildebeest migration. Your guide speaks English, French or German, and the fixed schedule means all transport, entry fees, meals and accommodation are arranged before you arrive.
What's included in the price of this safari?
Transport in a 4×4 vehicle with a viewing roof and a qualified driver-guide; all accommodation and full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at lodge properties; all park entry fees and taxes; airport transfers to and from Kilimanjaro; a bush lunch in the Serengeti; and 24-hour support from the operator's office in Moshi during the safari.
How much time do I spend driving versus game viewing?
Days two through five include game drives in the parks. Day two is an afternoon drive in Tarangire after a two-hour morning transfer. Day three is a three- to four-hour drive to Serengeti via Olduvai Gorge. Day four is a full day of game viewing in the Serengeti. Day five includes a full-day crater game drive at Ngorongoro. Day six is a late-afternoon drive at Lake Manyara after a morning transfer.
What level of fitness do I need for this safari?
You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. Most of the time is spent in a vehicle with a roof hatch for viewing and photography, though game drives involve sitting for extended periods and the terrain is uneven.
Can I visit Olduvai Gorge on this tour?
Olduvai Gorge is part of the route on day three as you drive from Tarangire to Serengeti. The itinerary passes through this archaeological site where early human fossils were discovered, though a separate guided tour of the gorge itself is not included in this package.
