The Experience
The tour leaves Arusha after breakfast on day one and heads straight into Tarangire National Park for a game drive with a picnic lunch. Tarangire's draw is its elephant population—the park anchors an annual migration cycle that brings up to 3,000 elephants, 25,000 wildebeest and 30,000 zebras through its boundaries. The baobab trees scattered across the landscape are part of what makes the park recognizable; you'll camp at Twiga Campsite that night.
Day two starts before dawn with an early breakfast, then you descend over 600 meters into Ngorongoro crater. The crater's year-round water supply and vegetation support herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog and hippo, plus giant African elephants. The predator population is dense—lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and leopards all hunt here, though spotting a leopard requires a trained eye. You'll visit Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner where flamingos, hippos and water birds gather. The afternoon drive returns you to Twiga Campsite for dinner and overnight.
The final day takes you to Lake Manyara National Park after breakfast. The park's small size contains multiple habitats—acacia woodlands, water forests, baobab cliffs, hot springs, swamps and the lake itself—which support a large animal population and exceptional bird life. Lake Manyara holds the world's largest concentration of baboons, and the lions here are known for climbing into trees. After the game drive you head back to Arusha.
