The experience
The drive from Mwanza to the Serengeti entrance takes about two hours. You travel in a modern air-conditioned vehicle equipped with USB and 3-pin charging ports, an electric cooler box for your own drinks and food, and onboard WiFi. The vehicle has a pop-up roof and extra-wide windows that open the full 360 degrees around you. The setup means you watch game without the glass barrier most safari vehicles impose. Radio calls and a tracking system keep the guide connected to other vehicles spotting wildlife across the park.
Once inside Serengeti National Park, the day is spent on game drives watching for lions, elephants, zebras, wildebeest and other animals moving across the plains. You'll pass the Hippo Pool during your drive. A boxed lunch is provided during the day. You spend one night in a tented camp or lodge within the park on a full board basis, meals included, before a second day of game viewing before the return drive to Mwanza.
The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one of two additional languages and stays with your group throughout. Pickup from your Mwanza location is included in the price. Per-person rates drop as your group grows, so bringing friends lowers the cost per traveler.
