The experience
The day starts before dawn in Moshi. After breakfast, you're picked up and driven straight to Tarangire, arriving as the park comes alive. The landscape hits you first: golden savannah broken by termite mounds the size of houses and baobab trees so old they dwarf the 4x4. The open roof means you're not watching wildlife through glass. You're in it, camera ready for the animals that move across the grassland in front of you.
Tarangire's year-round water supply means the wildlife concentrates here when other parks dry out. You'll see herds of elephants: mothers with calves, juveniles sparring, solitary bulls that have left the group. Giraffes, warthogs, buffalo, baboons and impala move through the acacia bush. If you're patient, you might spot one of Tarangire's famous climbing leopards in the trees. The park holds over 550 bird species, from the Maasai ostrich to yellow-necked spurfowls and black-necked weavers, so binoculars earn their weight. A lunch stop breaks the afternoon drive, then you're back in the vehicle until the light starts to fade and the guide heads back toward Moshi, arriving in the cool of the evening.
Your guide speaks English and travels with you the whole day. Bottled water is provided, and all park fees and taxes are covered in the price. The 4x4 is yours alone: no sharing the vehicle or the guide's attention with other groups.

Top questions
What animals am I most likely to see in Tarangire?
Elephants are the draw. The park is famous for large family groups and solitary bulls. You'll also see giraffes, warthogs, buffalo, baboons and impala regularly. Leopards live in the trees, and over 550 bird species inhabit the park, including the Maasai ostrich. Hyenas and other predators are present, though sightings depend on the time of day and season.
Why does Tarangire have so much wildlife compared to other parks?
The Tarangire River provides water year-round, which is rare in the region. When other parks dry out seasonally, wildlife concentrates around this permanent water source, making it one of the richest wildlife viewing areas in Tanzania.
How long is the actual driving and game viewing?
The full day runs 4 to 8 hours depending on wildlife activity and your guide's route. You depart Moshi early in the morning and return in the evening. Most of the middle hours are spent in the 4x4 watching the park, with a lunch break partway through.
What's included in the price?
The safari includes private 4x4 transport from Moshi, an English-speaking guide for the full day, lunch, bottled water, and all park entry fees and taxes. You do not need to arrange transport or pay separately for park access.
Can I bring a child or infant?
Yes. Infants can sit on an adult's lap, and the tour is suitable for all fitness levels. The open-roof vehicle gives everyone a good view, though the day is long and involves sitting in a vehicle for most of it.
