The day starts at 8am with hotel pickup and a drive to Marangu Gate on Kilimanjaro's eastern flank. After registration at the park gate, you begin an approximately 3–4 hour walk toward Mandara Hut at 2,700 meters, moving through the lush forest that cloaks the lower mountain. Lunch happens en route, breaking up the climb before you descend back to the gate and get driven to your hotel or onward to the airport.

Marangu Falls (also called Chagga Falls or Kilema Falls) sits on the mountain's slopes surrounded by thick vegetation and the cultural landscape of Marangu village. The waterfall visit comes later in the day and offers a chance to walk through the area and see how the Chagga people live on these slopes.
