The experience

You leave Arusha and drive into Tarangire National Park for a full day of game drives through the best spots to find lions, cheetahs and leopards alongside the herds: elephants, wildebeest, buffaloes, gazelles and deer. The park is built around water, so animals concentrate where the rivers run, making sightings reliable. You stay overnight at Fig Lodge.

Day two starts with an early breakfast, then you head to the Ngorongoro viewpoint to see the crater from above before descending into it. The crater floor is a closed ecosystem where animals have nowhere to hide, so spotting them is easier than in open savanna: except for black rhinos, which stay hardest to find even here. After lunch you do another game drive across the crater floor, then ascend the rim for the drive back to Arusha town.

The tour keeps costs low while staying adventurous: you get relaxed pacing, time to watch animals without rushing between stops, and the two parks that show the widest range of wildlife in the region. Park fees and dinner are included. You arrange your own flights and visas.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (5 to 12 years); Infant (under 5).

What animals will I actually see on this safari from Arusha?

Tarangire is known for lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, wildebeest, buffaloes, gazelles, deer, monkeys, warthogs, zebras and impalas. Ngorongoro Crater holds similar species, though black rhinos are the hardest to spot even on the crater floor where they have limited places to hide.

Why is the Ngorongoro Crater floor easier for wildlife spotting than other parks?

The crater is a closed ecosystem (a sunken caldera where animals cannot easily leave), so they concentrate in one contained area. Most wildlife becomes visible as you drive, unlike open savanna where animals can roam across vast distances.

What time does the second day start, and when do I get back to Arusha?

Day two begins with an early breakfast before heading to the crater viewpoint. You descend into the crater, do a game drive after lunch, then ascend and drive back to Arusha. The exact return time depends on wildlife sightings and traffic, but the full day is built into the itinerary.

Is accommodation included in the 2-day tour price?

One night at Fig Lodge is included on day one. Accommodation for any nights before or after the tour is your own arrangement.

Does the tour price include getting to and from my hotel in Arusha?

Hotel pickup is included in the tour. Park entry fees and dinner are also covered. Tips, visa fees and flights are separate.
