The experience
The day starts with entry into Taroko National Park, where the Liwu River has carved a gorge through marble cliffs over thousands of years. You'll walk the Shakadang Trail beside turquoise water and lush forest, cross suspension bridges with views down into the canyon, and stop at the Swallow Grotto to watch swallows dart in and out of their homes in the rock face. The Eternal Spring Shrine sits against a backdrop of steep cliffs with a natural spring that flows year-round, creating a waterfall beneath the temple: built to honor workers who died constructing the Central Cross-Island Highway.
After the gorge, the tour heads to the Qingshui Cliffs, where marble walls rise nearly 800 meters straight up from the Pacific Ocean. The cliffs stretch for more than 20 kilometers along the Suhua Highway and are recognized as one of Taiwan's "Eight Wonders." You'll have time to take in the panoramic views where the sheer rock plunges into turquoise water. The final stop is Qixingtan Beach, a crescent-shaped bay with a pebbled shoreline and crystal-clear waters backed by mountains: a quieter spot to walk the coastal trails and breathe in the sea air before heading back to Hualien.
You'll travel with a local guide who speaks Chinese and handles all logistics: round-trip pickup from Hualien, fuel, parking and tolls are included. The vehicle size depends on your group. Choose from a 5-seater car, 7-seater car, 9-seater car, or 20-seater minibus when you book. If you're staying outside central Hualien, additional suburb transfer fees will be shown on your voucher and paid to the driver on the day. The tour suits all fitness levels and is wheelchair accessible. Infants can ride on an adult's lap, and pets are welcome in secured carriers.
