  • Visit Meinong Folk Village
  • Make your own Lei cha
  • Stroll by Meinong Lake at sunset
  • Explore Qishan Old Street
  • Visit Pier-2 Art Center

The experience

Eight and a half hours takes you through four stops that trace Hakka culture and landscape. You start at Tianliao Moon World, where eroded clay ridges and gullies create terrain that looks like another planet: the trails wind through this badlands formation, though some sections may be closed for maintenance. From there you move to Meinong Folk Village, the core of the day: you'll see traditional architecture and indigo dyeing work, then sit down to make your own lei cha, a Hakka herbal tea blend you prepare and taste. The guide walks you through it. The experience charge is already in your booking.

The afternoon softens into quieter moments. You take a lakeside stroll at Meinong Lake as the sun drops, then move through Qishan Old Street, where Baroque-style buildings from the Japanese colonial era line the way, mixed with local snacks and vintage shops. The day closes at Pier-2 Art Center, a contemporary art space that sits at the edge of Kaohsiung's harbor. Transportation between all stops is included, and your guide (speaking English or Chinese) stays with the group throughout. The total time accounts for travel between each location.

Bring sun protection: an umbrella, hat or light jacket matter here, and if rain threatens, bring a raincoat. The tour can shift or cancel if weather turns severe. Latecomers won't be refunded, and changes within 24 hours may not go through. If your group doesn't hit the minimum headcount, you'll get a cancellation notice.

What’s included

  • A live guide in English or Chinese.
  • transportation to and from all four stops.
  • the lei cha DIY experience and its NTD 120 charge.
  • insurance coverage.

Is this one for you?You make the lei cha yourself rather than watching a demonstration, which is what makes the Hakka tradition stick. You're not just seeing the village, you're doing what people there have done for generations. This suits anyone who wants to move beyond sightseeing and actually participate in the culture they're visiting.
