Family Rafting in Interlaken: gentle rapids and Lake Brienz swim
Paddle gentle rapids, then jump into Lake Brienz
Family rafting on the Aare River near Interlaken is a 2.5-hour activity for children and families, with small but exciting rapids followed by a swim in Lake Brienz. Professional guides lead the trip in English or German, provide all rafting equipment, and run a full safety briefing before you push off. Children must be at least 8 years old.
The Experience
You meet your guides at the base in Interlaken five minutes before departure, change into rafting gear in the changing rooms, and head to the start location for a safety talk and paddling instructions. The river itself takes about 45 minutes to navigate—the rapids are small and designed to feel thrilling without being overwhelming, which is why this trip works as a first introduction to whitewater for kids who have never rafted before.
Once the river opens into Lake Brienz, you hop out of the raft and swim in the lake before a 10-minute drive brings you back to the base. A free drink waits for you after the trip, and hot showers are available if you want to rinse off before heading out. All necessary equipment—paddle, helmet, life jacket, wetsuit—is provided.
