The experience

The day starts with a short bus ride along Lake Thun to the Beatus Caves, where you walk an illuminated path through the Niederhorn massif at your own pace. Stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years line the route, and underground waterfalls run through the caverns. After exploring the caves, a 10-minute transfer takes you back down to the lake.

From Beatenbucht, you board a lake boat for the cruise to Thun. The crossing gives you time to take in the mountains and the villages along the shoreline. Once in Thun, a guide leads a one-hour walking tour of the city. You'll see the 12th-century castle and the baroque church hall, both overlooking the Aare River and the Alps. After the tour, you have roughly two hours of free time to wander the Old Town, browse the shops and cafés, or sit by the water.

The train ride back to Interlaken takes 30 minutes and follows the lake, giving you a chance to settle in before the day ends. The whole tour runs about seven hours from pickup to return.
