Summary

Segway across Stockholm’s islands, old streets and city parks

You’ll glide through Stockholm on a Segway with a small group and local guide—past City Hall, into Old Town’s winding streets, over quiet bridges to Södermalm and Djurgården. Expect some wobbles at first (it’s normal), plenty of stories from your guide, and views you’ll remember long after you step off.

experience

What’s the experience like?

We rolled out of the Adventure Cafe—literally—after a few wobbly test runs in the alley. Never thought I’d be nervous about standing up, but there’s something about a Segway that makes your knees feel like spaghetti for the first five minutes. Our guide, Erik, didn’t rush us. He just grinned and told me, “Everyone looks like that at first.” The helmet felt snug, which was oddly reassuring.

First stop: Stockholm City Hall. It’s even more imposing when you’re gliding by instead of trudging along on foot. The bells echoed off the water (or maybe that was just my nerves). We zipped along the edge of Gamla Stan—the old town—where the stones looked slick from last night’s rain. Erik pointed out Riddarholm Church and tossed in some story about medieval kings getting buried there; I barely caught it because I was busy dodging a pigeon. There’s this smell of fresh bread drifting from somewhere—I never figured out where—and a little gust off the water that made me wish I’d brought gloves.

Skeppsholmen felt quieter than the rest of the city; we paused for a second to watch a ferry chug past, engine rumbling low. Then Södermalm came into view—colorful houses stacked up like toy blocks, and honestly, that view sticks with me. I kept thinking how weirdly peaceful it is to move through a city without any hurry or honking or subway announcements blaring at you every two minutes.

The last stretch took us around Djurgården, which Erik said is the world’s first national city park (I googled it later—he wasn’t making it up). By then my feet had stopped buzzing from standing so long, and I didn’t want to get off yet. If you’ve never tried a city Segway tour in Stockholm before… well, don’t be surprised if you end up grinning like an idiot most of the way.
