Ride behind a team of Alaskan Huskies instead of holding the reins

A three-hour dog sled tour near Kiruna where you sit on a sled pulled by 12–14 Alaskan Huskies through the Poikkijärvi Woods, with a guide driving and you relaxing into the ride. Winter overalls, boots and gloves are provided; the kennel is 17km outside town with free pickup included. After the run, feed the dogs and warm up at an open fire with coffee and snacks.

The Experience

The sled seats four people total, and you settle in as one of your experienced guides takes the reins. The team of Huskies pulls you through dark forest in the early morning, and the pace lets you absorb the landscape without the work of steering or managing the dogs yourself. If conditions align, you might spot a moose or reindeer moving through the trees. The whole ride lasts the morning, and the cold—sometimes dropping below minus 30 Celsius—is what makes the snow crystallize and the light behave the way it does at that hour.

Before you board the sled, the kennel team walks you through helping ready the dogs if you want to; after the ride, you feed your team a chunk of meat—their favorite winter snack—and watch them eat. Then everyone moves to the fire hut, where you thaw out with a warm drink and a snack while the wood fire crackles. The whole setup is intentionally remote, 17km from the main tourist center of Kiruna and away from other operators, so the forest feels genuinely quiet.

Winter gear is provided—overalls, boots, gloves—though the kennel asks you to dress as warmly as you can beforehand; they'll add layers if the temperature demands it. Free pickup runs from central Kiruna to the kennel, so you don't need a car or a ride arranged separately. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Swedish depending on your group.
