The experience
The day starts with a 30-minute jeep drive along the seaside main road and through the Marigot Bay Pirates Route to Roseau, where your guide meets you at the water's edge. The route itself is part of the experience: the jeep carries you past the bay's cove-like geography, which shelters the water during hurricane season and keeps it calm for paddling. Once you're in the kayak, the guide teaches basic paddling technique and then leads you along the open coastline, where you'll watch for marine species and birds while learning about the area's ecology and history.
About halfway through your time on the water, you'll pull ashore for a 30-minute break at Roseau Beach, a half-mile stretch where you can swim and refresh yourself. The guide brings seasonal fresh coconuts, water, and rum punch: small touches that ground the experience in local practice. After the break, you paddle into the mangrove ecosystem, where the dense root systems create a shaded canopy and shelter wildlife. The water here is still and clear, and the guide continues to point out what lives in and around the roots. Depending on sea conditions, you may paddle back to the starting point or take a different route. The guide adjusts the plan for safety and comfort.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and French.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 12): free.
How much time do I actually spend paddling versus traveling and resting?
You spend roughly an hour and a half on the water across the full three-hour activity. The jeep ride takes 30 minutes each way, and you have a 30-minute break midway through paddling for refreshments and a swim at Roseau Beach.
What's the Marigot Bay Pirates Route, and why does the jeep go through it?
The Pirates Route is a scenic coastal drive through Marigot Bay that connects the main road to Roseau. The bay's natural cove structure makes it exceptionally protected (it's classified as a safe boat sanctuary during hurricanes), so the route showcases the geography that keeps the kayaking waters calm and sheltered.
Will the guide teach me how to kayak if I've never done it before?
Yes. Your guide provides instruction in basic paddling techniques before you leave the shore, so beginners can paddle comfortably. The guide also stays with you throughout, offering help with technique and pointing out wildlife and historical details along the way.
What happens if the sea conditions are rough on the day I go?
The guide monitors sea conditions and adjusts the route for your safety and comfort. Depending on conditions, you may paddle back to the original starting point rather than take an alternate route, but the guide makes that call to keep you safe on the water.
Are there animals to see, or is this mostly about the paddling itself?
Wildlife is a focus of the experience. Your guide is trained to spot and interpret birdlife, marine species, and the ecosystem around you: both along the open coastline and beneath the mangrove canopy, where the root systems shelter diverse wildlife.
