The experience
Seven to eight hours means you move through the island's most dramatic geography without backtracking. The tour starts in the lowlands and climbs to Teide National Park, Spain's most visited national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site, where the air thins and the volcanic terrain opens up. From there you descend into the lush northern forests, stopping at the Drago tree in Icod de los Vinos: the oldest in the Canary Islands at over 1,200 years old and the emblem of the town itself.
Garachico was Tenerife's first capital and the island's main port connecting Europe to America until volcanic eruptions reshaped the coastline. The lava flows created natural volcanic pools that still exist in the municipality, remnants of that geological violence. The final stop is Masca Valley, a small town tucked inside the cliffs of Los Gigantes that once served pirates as a protected hideaway. The constant altitude shifts mean you'll notice real temperature changes as you move through the day: what feels warm at sea level becomes cool at the peak.
The bus is air-conditioned and the guide travels with the group, speaking your language as you move between stops. Pickup is included, so you don't arrange transport to the starting point. Lunch is not part of the tour, so plan to bring something or buy it at one of the stops.
