Paella cooking class in Mutxamel: Learn 5 Spanish dishes
You cook the paella yourself, then sit down to eat it
A paella cooking class in Mutxamel where you prepare three Spanish starters, traditional Paella Valenciana, and a dessert with Chef Lorena, then share lunch together. The class opens with tapas and Agua de Valencia, a regional cocktail of fresh orange juice and Spanish Cava. Wine and beer are included throughout, and the outdoor venue seats up to eight people.
The experience
Mutxamel's outdoor cooking space is where you'll spend three and a half hours learning to make paella the way Lorena does. The class starts with tapas (choose from tostas, embutido, cold soups, ensaladilla rusa, carpaccios, pa amb tomaca, tapenade and chilli paste) plus an Agua de Valencia, the Valencia region's signature cocktail of fresh orange juice and Spanish Cava. After that opening, you move into the kitchen work: three different Spanish starters, then the main event, Paella Valenciana, built on the traditional recipe of rice, chicken and vegetables. A surprise dessert rounds out what you'll cook.
Lorena is both a chef and a tour guide, so between the chopping and stirring, she tells you the history of paella and how it fits into Spanish food culture. She'll answer questions about the dish's place in the region, and you can ask about lunchtime classes if you want to dig deeper into Spanish cooking on another visit. The class works for all skill levels, no prior experience needed, and the communal setup means you're cooking alongside up to seven other people, then eating together at one table.
The venue is outdoors in the heart of Mutxamel, a family town close to beaches and the city. Public transportation runs nearby if you're coming from elsewhere. Let Lorena know ahead of time if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions. She'll work with you to adapt the menu. Your confirmation voucher will have the full address under the "Before You Go" section.
