The Experience

You arrive at one of Menorca's partner dive centers and gear up with full equipment—neoprene, regulator, fins, mask, vest, boots—all included. The guide briefs you on the site and the conditions, then you descend together into water that has recovered enough to show abundant life again. The two marine reserves and Natura 2000 protected areas where all dives happen are the reason: protection is written into the seabed itself.

What you see depends on what you want to photograph. Macro photographers get time to frame small creatures without the group moving on; general divers explore caves or wrecks—the Junker 88 is a German World War II aircraft, the Malakoff a merchant ship, the Santa Clara a fishing boat. The guide knows these sites and the life that inhabits them. You navigate the dive together, and the guide carries an underwater camera. Every photograph taken during the dive is yours to take home.

Between dives or after, a picnic of local produce and non-alcoholic drinks waits on the boat—apple juice, water, Coke. A special waist bag lets you collect any plastic you find underwater. The whole experience runs five hours. If you bring your own equipment, you're refunded the rental fee (€15 per dive). Diving insurance is available on the day if you don't carry your own.

Do I get the underwater photos even if I'm not a photographer?

Yes. The guide photographs the dive experience for all divers. Every image taken underwater during your dive goes home with you as a souvenir.

What's included in the picnic?

Do I need to bring my own diving insurance?
