The experience
Menorca's mushroom farms are not on most travelers' lists, but this one is listed by Spain's Ministry of Tourism as one of the country's best agricultural experiences. The activity starts with videos and presentations that explain mycology and how mushrooms grow through the seasons. You'll learn the processes that happen in nature and pick up techniques for growing them at home if you want to try it yourself.
The farm tour takes you through the laboratory, the production areas, and then into the surprising interior forest where the mushrooms are actually collected. You see the whole chain from cultivation through construction and elaboration, so there's no mystery left about how the product moves from soil to kitchen. The walk is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, and the surfaces are level throughout.
The tasting comes at the end, paired with a drink from the island: wine, beer, water or soft drinks, all included. The dishes are described as original and unusual elaborations, so you're not just eating plain mushrooms. After the included tasting, you can order more at €5 per unit if something catches your interest.
