The Experience
Someone hands me a cold drink before I’ve even found my spot on the netting — I’m still not sure if it was Juan or maybe Toni, but either way, that’s how our catamaran tour started in Puerto Pollensa. The boat rocks gently as we push off, and there’s this salty tang in the air that makes you want to breathe deeper. Kids are already peering over the edge looking for fish. I grab a seat near the front because I can’t resist the spray, even though my hair’s going to be a mess by the end of this.
We drift past these tiny coves along Mallorca’s north coast — honestly, some of them look like they could fit maybe two towels and a dog, but they’re beautiful in their own quiet way. Our guide points out S’Illot beach tucked under pine trees (I try to say it out loud and get it wrong; Li laughs at my accent). There’s a moment where everything goes quiet except for the sound of water slapping against the hull and someone opening another can behind me. It feels like time slows down out here.
Formentor beach is where we drop anchor for longer — white sand, clear water, all that postcard stuff but somehow less staged than I expected. Some people go straight for the stand up paddle boards; I just float for a while with my face in the water, watching little silver fish dart around. Lunch is simple but good: pasta salad, chicken, cheese, salami, crusty Mallorcan bread. The crew keeps topping up drinks and joking about who’ll be brave enough to swim back to shore (nobody tries). Afterward we all sprawl out like lizards in the sun until it’s time to head back toward Port de Pollensa.
I still think about that feeling — salt drying on my skin, sun-warmed wood under my feet, everyone just quietly happy for a bit. If you’re after big thrills this isn’t it, but if you want half a day of honest-to-goodness relaxation on a Mallorca catamaran tour… well. You’ll probably remember it too.
