The Experience

I’ll admit, I signed up for the leathercraft workshop in Madrid’s El Rastro mostly out of curiosity — I’d never made anything with my hands that wasn’t a sandwich. Walking into the studio, tucked away near Cebada Square, you can smell the leather before you see it. Not strong, just this soft warmth that reminds me of old bookshops. There was this moment when I pressed my first stitch through the cowhide and felt how thick and stubborn it was — nothing like fabric.
