The experience

The tour starts in a park whose gardens are 200 years old, where viewpoints open onto the gorge and the surrounding landscape. From there the guide moves through the story of Spain's oldest bullring (the place where Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway fell in love with Ronda), and explains how modern bullfighting took shape. The New Bridge, completed in 1793, becomes the centerpiece: you'll see it from several angles to understand why it became the symbol of the city.

The hanging gardens let you frame one of the most photographed views in Ronda: the New Bridge nested in the gorge, with the House of the Moorish King and the Old Bridge visible below. You cross the 16th-century arch that marks the entrance to the old town, where the Church of Father Jesus sits framed in the stone gateway. The guide points out the 18th-century facade of a colonial-era building, its forge and wooden details intact, then moves into the main square where three Catholic churches stand near the City Hall and the Church of Santa María de la Encarnación: the archaeological heart of the city.
