E-MTB Challenge Pico Veleta: Electric Bike to 3398m
Climb Europe's highest road on an electric mountain bike, spotting wild horses and mountain goats along the way.
This is a 6-hour electric mountain bike activity in Granada that takes you up Pico Veleta to 3398m on Europe's highest road, reaching the second highest peak of the Iberian Peninsula. You ride an e-MTB with a live guide, hotel pickup included, and a support vehicle follows the group. The electric assist makes the altitude and gradient manageable for anyone with moderate fitness, and on clear days the views stretch to the Mediterranean Sea. Children from age 12 are welcome; the activity is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or cardiovascular concerns.
The Experience
You're picked up from your Granada hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and driven to the start of the Pico Veleta route. The e-bike does the heavy lifting on the climb—the motor handles the gradient so you can focus on the road ahead, the altitude changes, and the ecosystems shifting beneath you as the elevation rises. The route follows the highest road in Europe, winding through the Sierra Nevada with views that open wider the higher you go. On clear days you'll see all the way to the Mediterranean.
The 6-hour ride is a physical challenge, but the electric assist means you're not fighting the mountain alone. Along the climb, watch for mountain goats, wild horses, eagles and foxes moving through the high terrain. The fresh air and the altitude make every pedal feel like something—not just effort, but a moment in a landscape most people never reach by any means. The support vehicle stays with the group, so there's always a way back if the altitude or the effort becomes too much.
You'll need at least a moderate level of fitness to handle six hours in the saddle at altitude, but the e-bike removes the fitness barrier that would normally make Pico Veleta unreachable. Liability insurance and accident coverage are included under Andalusia's regional tourism regulations. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese, so the route and the wildlife and the views get explained as you climb.

What's the altitude gain on the Pico Veleta e-bike ride?
Pico Veleta sits at 3398m on Europe's highest road, making it the second highest peak of the Iberian Peninsula. The electric assist handles the gradient so the climb is manageable for anyone with moderate fitness, even at altitude.
Can I see the Mediterranean Sea from the top of Pico Veleta?
On clear days, yes—the views from 3398m extend all the way to the Mediterranean Sea across the Sierra Nevada. The panorama shifts as you climb, revealing different ecosystems and landscapes the higher you go.
What animals might I spot on the ride?
Mountain goats, wild horses, eagles and foxes live in the high terrain of the Sierra Nevada. You'll cross different ecosystems as the altitude rises, which is where these animals are most likely to appear.
How does the electric bike make this ride different from a regular mountain bike climb?
The e-bike motor handles the steep gradient and altitude, so you can ride for six hours without the fitness level normally required for Pico Veleta. This makes the climb accessible to anyone with moderate fitness who wants the challenge and the views.
Is pickup from my Granada hotel included?
Yes, hotel pickup from Granada is included, and an air-conditioned vehicle transports the group to the start of the route. A support vehicle follows during the ride as well.
What's the minimum age to ride?
Children are welcome from age 12. Infants must sit on an adult's lap, and the activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or poor cardiovascular health.
