You'll meet your guide at Glorieta Cruz Roja (in front of the Eurostars Palace hotel) if you've booked the bus option, or at the Medina Azahara visitor center parking lot if you're driving yourself. The bus departs on time, so arriving 10 minutes early matters. Once at the site, a shuttle bus carries you from the parking area up to the excavation: the guide covers this cost as part of the tour.

The 90-minute walking tour moves through the ruins of mosques, ceremonial halls, palaces and workshops that made up this 10th-century complex when Spain was under Moorish control. The site is still being excavated, so what you see shifts with ongoing work. Your guide explains the palace's history and layout as you walk. The order of the visit (whether you see the ruins first or the museum first) depends on the monument's daily rules, so flexibility helps.
