The experience

The boat leaves Port Olímpic twice a day at 11am and 3pm, carrying no more than 9 people per group. You board a modern sailing boat with soft cushions in the cockpit and on the bow, and the skipper handles the sail while you settle in with a drink: beer, wine, cava or a soft drink, all unlimited. The snacks come steady: premium olives, fuet (a local sausage), quinoa crackers and chips. The 2-hour sail takes you off the Barcelona coast where the city skyline stays visible but the water opens up around you.

Port Olímpic itself is the reason you are on the water. Before 1992, Barcelona had turned its back to the sea. The Olympic Games changed that entirely. The city built a new sports marina, the Olympic Village, and two skyscrapers (Hotel Arts and the Mapfre Tower) all anchored here. The golden fish sculpture El Peix, 52 meters long and gleaming in stainless steel, marks the waterfront and shifts color as the sun moves. Sailing past it and out into the Mediterranean is what the makeover made possible.

The boat stops for a short swim partway through, and if conditions align, dolphins or whales appear. The skipper is there to manage the sail and answer questions. The rest of the group comes from all over the world. Public transportation reaches Port Olímpic easily, and infants can ride on an adult's lap. A minimum of 2 people is required to book, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
