You'll actually make something at Taller Gingell, not just watch

You hand-build a ceramic planter under guidance from professional artisans, learning clay techniques and decoration methods as you work. The studio provides all tools, clay, and kiln firing. If you're leaving Barcelona soon, you can take home a finished planter immediately or arrange shipping for the one you made.

Step-by-step itinerary

Create your own ceramic planter

  • Arrive at ceramics workshop
  • Learn about clays and techniques
  • Put on apron and prepare clay
  • Hand build your ceramic planter
  • Texture and decorate your planter
  • Choose pickup or finished planter

The Experience

The moment your hands touch the clay, you realize this isn't a demonstration. Wendy and Eric, the founders of Taller Gingell, have set up their Barcelona ceramic studio so that you're doing the work yourself — hand-building a planter from scratch, learning the same sculpting techniques professional ceramists use. No prior experience is necessary, and honestly, that's the whole point. You come in, put on an apron, and start shaping.

The workshop walks you through everything: different clay types, how to build by hand, and then the decoration part, where you add texture and personalization to your piece. It's tactile and a bit messy, which is exactly what makes it feel real. Wendy's work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the studio itself is accredited by the Generalitat de Catalunya — so you're learning in a space that takes the craft seriously, even though the vibe stays relaxed and open. You're not competing with anyone; you're just making something.

The only catch is timing. Ceramics need to dry and fire, which takes a week or two. If you're only in Barcelona for a few days, you can leave your planter behind and take home a finished piece made by Taller Gingell instead — or arrange to have yours shipped later via DHL if you want the one you made. Either way, you walk out with something tangible, not just a memory.

What’s included

Your workshop includes all clay and ceramic modeling tools, a kiln firing for your planter, an apron, and WiFi access at the studio. The studio provides everything you need; just bring yourself.

Is this one for you?Right for anyone who wants to leave Barcelona with something they made themselves rather than bought. The two-week drying time is what makes the kiln firing possible, so if you're only in the city for a few days, the option to take home a finished planter instead keeps the experience from feeling incomplete.
