Shape clay into a cup, then texture and decorate it yourself

Make your own artisan ceramic cup at an accredited ceramics studio in Barcelona, learning hand-building and decoration techniques in a 2.5-hour workshop. The studio is run by a ceramicist whose work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian and Philadelphia Museum of Art. You'll come away with either your finished piece (ready in 1–2 weeks for pickup or worldwide shipping) or a handmade cup from the studio's collection if you're leaving Barcelona sooner. No prior experience needed, and children from age 12 are welcome.

The Experience

The workshop starts with clay, tools and an apron—no experience required. You'll learn about different clays and how ceramicists hand-sculpt, then build your own cup from scratch, shaping it with your hands. Once the form is complete, you move into decoration: adding texture, patterns and glazing techniques that give each cup its character. The whole process takes about two and a half hours, and the studio keeps the environment open and unhurried, whether you come alone or with a friend.

Your finished cup needs time to dry and fire in the kiln, which takes a week or two. If you're visiting Barcelona and can't wait, you can take home a handmade cup from the studio's existing collection instead. Otherwise, your piece will be ready for pickup when you return, or the studio ships worldwide via DHL (shipping cost is separate). Either way, you leave with something you made or something made by the same hands that taught you.
