The Experience

You get picked up from your hotel in downtown Jeju City and spend two full days in a private vehicle with a guide who speaks English, Chinese or Japanese. The route stays under 130 kilometers per day, so the driving is not the point—the stops are. On the east side, you stand at Seongsan Ilchulbong, a 182-meter tuff cone that rose from the seabed five thousand years ago and now sits on the eastern shore with a preserved crater bowl inside. Lunch happens here, and the women diver show runs at the same site. Woljeongri Beach comes earlier in the day, known for white sand and the cafes that line the street nearby. Seopjikoji sits at the eastern tip and fills with yellow canola flowers in April; in autumn months it trades places with Sangumburi Crater instead. The folk village or folk village museum rounds out the east route—a preserved settlement with stone piles built to shield roofs from wind, the buildings still standing from the Joseon Dynasty.

The west route opens with Hallim Park or The Ma Park, both known for seasonal flower events. Osulloc Tea Museum comes next—Korea's first tea museum, opened in 2001 on Jeju, with a tea stone building added in 2013 where you can taste and experience tea culture. Lunch is local food. Sanbangsan Mountain, a 395-meter dome-shaped volcano, holds a natural stone cave with a Buddha statue inside; the cave is called Sanbanggulsa Temple. Yongmeori Coast is a volcanic beach made of ash from ancient eruptions, and its name means "dragon's head" because of how it juts into the sea—though access closes during high tides or bad weather, and Mt. Songaksan becomes the backup stop. The final choice is yours: Cheonjeyeon Falls (three sections with rare reeds around them), Teddy Bear Museum, Alive Museum (a trick art theme park with five optical illusion zones), or the columnar joints at Jungmun (black hexagon stone pillars that look like a folding screen, with admission included).

Manjanggul Cave, listed as a UNESCO site, is currently closed for construction to prevent falling hazards. During this closure, Jeju Stone Park substitutes on the east route. If you book the west route or the cave is open when you arrive, the guide confirms the swap beforehand. Pickup and drop-off from downtown Jeju City are included; if your hotel sits outside downtown, an extra charge of 30,000 to 120,000 KRW applies. If the tour runs past the scheduled two days, you pay the driver directly—15,000 to 35,000 KRW per 30 minutes depending on vehicle type.
