The Experience
The day starts with hotel pickup in Seoul and a ride to the station for the KTX express train. The bullet train travels at 300km/h and takes two and a half hours to reach Busan. Once you arrive at Busan station, your guide meets you and the walking tour of the city begins.
Jagalchi Fish Market is Korea's largest seafood market and the landmark most associated with Busan itself. It solidified as a fish market after the Korean War and remains famous throughout the country; you can eat fresh raw fish right at the stalls. From there, the tour moves to Gamcheon Culture Village, a hillside neighborhood that started as a refuge during the war and became a creative urban regeneration project in 2010. The narrow streets, colorful houses and narrow staircases have earned it the nickname "Machu Picchu of Busan" and draw 1.4 million visitors annually. Haeundae Beach, the most famous beach in Busan, stretches roughly 1.5km with white sand and a shallow bay ideal for swimming.
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple sits on the northeastern coast—a rare find in Korea, since most temples are built in the mountains. Dongbaek Island, named after the camellia tree, holds the Nurimaru APEC house, a three-story building built for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. The tour also includes a stop at Ami-dong, where the entire city of Busan spreads out below you.
