The experience

You pick your starting point (Busan Station, Seomyeon, or Haeundae), and the guide meets you at the subway exit. From there the day moves through Busan's layers: first to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, which sits closest to the sea and holds the Diamond Sutra, a tangible cultural property of the city. You stand on the temple grounds with the East Sea spread out in front of you. The guide explains what you're looking at (the site's significance, the architecture, the view) rather than just pointing.

The route then takes you to Gamcheon Culture Village, the hillside neighborhood that earned the nickname "Korea's Machu Picchu" after a 2009 urban regeneration project filled its alleys with murals and artworks. It started as a 1950s refugee settlement. Now it's one of Korea's top 100 tourist sites. You walk through it with time to look, and the guide connects what you see to the neighborhood's actual history.
