From Underberg, the route follows the Mkomazana River through the Sani Valley, where sandstone cliffs rise on both sides and mountain streams cut across the road. The pass itself is the work: a series of tight switchbacks that climb steeply toward the South African border post. The descent back down Sani Pass offers a completely different perspective of the switchbacks and cliffs.
